Mammoth Peak Near Sunset

I kept looking towards Mono Lake and started seeing some pretty colors in the sky, but by that time (8:15), it was too late to drive to a new location. The peaks started to change colors a bit and I noticed a few clouds were starting to flow towards my location! I just hoped the clouds would still be there at sunset. Stay tuned!

This is a familiar scene! I photograph it often, and I shot it this season on the first day that Tioga Pass was open – probably a bit earlier in the season than your shot, since it appears that the ice has melted a bit more than when I was here, given a wonderful bit of texture to the foreground of your photograph.
