While I was driving the loop at San Luis NWR, I finally saw a few Tule Elk close enough that my 300mm and 1.4x II could capture it. I still had to crop this to fill the frame though. Maybe next time the elk will be more cooperative!

I was hoping for a great place to photograph sunset at San Luis NWR, but couldn’t find a decent location. I was just standing there looking for “something” to shoot and I turned behind me and I saw the moon with a a great red/blue sky.

Went out to San Luis NWR near Los Banos, CA to see how the water is (for waterfowl) and to see how the Tule Elk are doing. While I was driving the 5-mile loop around the refuge, I saw this “hawk” feeding. I took a few pictures; drove closer, a few more pictures etc. I got close enough, but not too close and got some good photos as he finished some type of bird.
