Male Bushtit – My First!
Went out to my backyard this afternoon specifically to capture one of the Dark-eyed Juncos that I just love. As I was sitting here, bored to tears, I saw this little gray puff-ball. I thought it was some type of Warbler at first. Cool I thought, since I have yet to capture a good Warbler…

Merced NWR – 12/16/09
This is starting to be a habit now. Every Wednesday my kids have gymnastics practice for 4 hours. I drop off the kids and my wife at the gym and I head out to the Merced NWR just before sunset. My goal this time was the very back pond, near the ‘Bittern Marsh Trail’. I…

Great Blue Heron at Merced NWR
I’ve been trying to capture a Great Blue Heron (GBH), close up, for some time now. Every time I get closer they fly away. Yesterday I drove out to the Merced NWR, just because. Didn’t plan on getting anything, not even a sunset photo as there were no clouds. I just thought I’d drive the…

My First Merlin (Falco columbarius)
Went out to San Luis NWR near Los Banos, CA to see how the water is (for waterfowl) and to see how the Tule Elk are doing. While I was driving the 5-mile loop around the refuge, I saw this “hawk” feeding. I took a few pictures; drove closer, a few more pictures etc. I…

Merced NWR at Sunset
Took a quick drive the Merced NWR last week (I know I’m slow in posting) to try and capture the sunset. I planned on setting up at my normal location, near the observation platform, but decided to change it up a bit….

Where Did April Go?
It’s almost May and I haven’t posted anything since March. My computer was out of commission for almost two weeks so I guess that’s a good excuse. I’ve been having fun taking pictures of the various songbirds in the back yard. The Juncos and White-crowned Sparrows have left, but I’m seeing new birds too…so it’s…
