I was planning on going up to the eastern Sierra for the fall colors next week (19th and 20th). I decided to go this weekend mainly because of the recent storms. I was hoping to catch some nice photography weather (clouds/storms) and some fall colors. I figured if the fall colors weren’t epic, maybe I can get lucky with the weather.
Thursday evening I heard that Tioga Pass was closed. Great, there goes my trip….so I first thought. Since this was the first storm of the season, I figured the Park would have it opened the next morning. Sure enough, they opened it back around 11am. I packed my camera stuff and since I was camping at Convict Lake, I packed my camping gear as well. Nice to use my old backpacking stuff again….my first bag-night this year!
I left the house around noon and got to the Convict Lake Campground around 5pm. Of course I stopped a few places along the Tioga Road to take a few pictures, but I’ll post those later.
Besides Convict Lake, I drove the June Lake Loop, Virginia Lake area, Lundy Canyon and Conway Summit. Some of the colors were already past their prime, like Conway Summit. Most of the colors were at their peak or not quite ready, like the Beaver Pond at Lundy.
I’ll post some of pictures later in the week, but here’s the sunset at Convict Lake…
